Emily Klass is a painter based in Park City, Utah, and Los Angeles, California. Her work reinterprets the tradition of Western American landscape painting through a contemporary painterly language, evoking a world shaped by the growing presence of technology and escalating ecological crises. Using gestural brushwork and a vivid Fauvist palette, Klass reexamines the transcendental and emotional dimensions of landscape. Her paintings ask: where might we locate the sublime?
Klass holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and MFA at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She spent more than a decade in Brooklyn, New York, developing her studio practice before returning to the Intermountain West. Klass’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally, including in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Venice, Italy.
