Wild Fermentation
For me fermentation is a health regime, a gourmet art, a multicultural adventure, a form of activism and a spiritual path all rolled into one. My daily routine is structured by the rhythms of these transformative life processes.

Audre Lorde’s quote reinforces this directive, as she writes: “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

“African American women have traditionally resisted white supremacy by constructing a homespace as a site of renewal, self recovery and healing.” ~ bell hooks, Yearning:Race, Gender and Cultural Politics, “Homeplace (a Site of Resistance).

The Plague and art

”This means the lives of all the "Old Masters" were experienced in its shadow: MichelangeloRembrandt and the rest all faced the danger that mortal contagion could at any moment seize their city.

“The art of these centuries abounds in images of death, sure, yet it is also full of joy. The Europeans of the 1500s and 1600s created incredible treasures and beacons of civilisation. Far from being driven to despair by pestilence, it is as if they were spurred to assert the glory of life.

Thesis Project: A container for memory

Expansion of Hold on Forever

Hold On Forever explores the memory of place through the combination of landscape painting, tapestries, ready-made structures, and living walls. This project is the product of a months-long communication between the artist and her father, an interior horticulturist.

Participants enter a partially enclosed space with a low ceiling that mimics a cave-like atmosphere with walls made from paintings and textiles. The canopy is blanketed with ferns and bromeliads which are hung upside-down. In this space, the participant is immersed in an environment that emphasizes the symbiotic relationship between humans and plants: plants provide us with oxygen, we provide them with carbon dioxide. Plants also create a negative ionic environment, which is believed to increase the production of the mood-boosting hormone serotonin in the body.

Weaving together personal narratives with ideas of time, communication, and healing, the installation provides a space for the viewer to enter, slow down, and get a breath of fresh air.
